Disaster Services
Mission: Disaster Services will be America's partner and a leader in mobilizing communities to help people prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and other life-threatening emergencies.
In 2008, the Northwest Georgia chapter helped with 135 disasters.
The Red Cross
- Responds to disasters of all kinds including single family fires, winter storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and earthquakes
- Supports communities after events that force people to evacuate, separate family members, damage, destroy homes or injure people
- Has developed and maintains local disaster plans and identifies adequate resources to ensure the human needs within a community are appropriately met
- Conducts disaster training as well as planning and preparedness. Assistance and training are provided free of charge
- Provides food, shelter and health related services to address basic human needs
- Helps individuals and families to resume their normal daily activities independently
Disaster Volunteer Meetings
Second Monday of every month at the Rome office, 6 p.m.
Fourth Monday of every month at the Cartersville office, 6 p.m.
Any new disaster volunteers are welcome to attend either meeting.
